Hand-Forged Carbon Steel Axes For Tough Jobs
Share
A hand-forged carbon steel axe is the go-to tool when it comes to heavy-duty splitting of wood or any work that requires real force. Here is what makes them stand apart from mass-produced alternatives.
Why Hand-Forged?
Hand-forged axe heads are denser and better balanced than cast alternatives. The forging process aligns the grain structure of the steel, producing a head that is tougher and more impact-resistant than a cast head of the same weight. The balance point matters especially for splitting and throwing work.
Carbon Steel vs Damascus Steel for Axes
Carbon steel axes are simpler to sharpen in the field and deliver outstanding chopping performance. Damascus steel axes offer the same performance characteristics with the distinctive layered pattern that makes each head unique. Both are available in the Jayger range. Care and Maintenance
Keep the head dry and apply a light coat of oil after use. Treat the hardwood handle with linseed oil periodically to prevent cracking. A mill bastard file followed by a whetstone will maintain a working edge. Full care instructions are included with every Jayger axe. Visit our Damascus Steel Care page for guidance.
